LA-based artist Matthew Brandt’s Lakes and Reservoirs features physically manipulated photographs of lakes and reservoirs that have been soaked in the same specific body of water, for varying periods of time.

He emphasizes the photograph not as a finely finished, indexical record of a subject but rather as an object that is as much at the mercy of physical forces as any other in the world. The works become physical manifestations of the interaction of the representative image and the real along with the degradation of the environment and the demise of photographic processes.

An interview where Brandt talks about the process involved in the series can be found here.
